Simply a matter of personnal taste and pardon my bias... I always love hearing Dennis' grooves... He makes it sound soooo Dennis... Yep, I'd agree, the ghost notes are louder than on Rosanna's. But again, it sounded... Dennis. As he himself said, t'was his own interpretation.
Where did Jeff Porcaro get his Rosanna groove from?? Wasn't it inspired from a John Bonham groove as well as from a Bernard Purdie? He took from them and made his own. I see nothing wrong in Dennis taking from Jeff and doing his thing with it, again, just a matter of what one likes and dislikes. As far as Dennis' solos, his solos have never been my favorites to listen to.

I agree with Dazzler. It definitely is Dennis's interpretation of Jeff because it does not sound like Jeff. The Ghosting is over the top and the touch is not their(very stiff feeling), it does not sit well with me,as far as comparing it to Jeff. And Dennis's chops and speed anymore they do not impress me. To many other guy's are way superior in those areas. But Dennis has made his mark alredy for sure.

Heh, well, the beat is most definitely pushing, I mean, it's right in front. Doesn't really sit, yet, the feel and the sound behind it is great. I don't think dennis is trying to copy porcaro. Seems to me he just took the idea and created his own thing out of it.
Dennis isn't trying to "copy" Jeffs groove. That is his way to do it.

Guys, guys - once again we're unrighteously comparing two very distinct & different players. Both of them have their own unique & signature sound, technique, feel, pocket, & groove, & both groove hard in each's own way, yet somewhat differently.
I'm sure if Jeff were here today he'd tell you [just like he said many times about Vinnie & Weckl] that DC is a monster. Jeff just felt lucky that he was called to play on so much stuff & that his playing was esteemed by many. [We all know how bad-a** his pocket was, though!]
Dennis isn't JEFF...never has been & never WILL be.
& Jeff isn't DENNIS, either...& he'd be the FIRST to tell you that.

i finally get to see ya on line! dennis likes his snare to be a little tighter than usual. but i think in this case it might've been the sound quality of the avi.
i enjoyed your playin this past weekend. i think i'll go back to the extra rack tom like you had.
i think dennis is da man. he's definitely created a unique voice on the drums and still manages to serve the music. it's unfortunate that he's been in alot of these topics where it's black or white. like they either love him, or hate him. he's influenced sooooo many people from derico watson, tony royster, blackwell, not to mention those of us who aren't mentioned in modern drummer.
i love the way he plays with authority and witt. it's like watching jordan finishing a fast break with a dunk.
